Born in California, Claudia considers herself of Southern origin, having lived most of her life in Kentucky and Georgia. From her earliest memories she began to draw on anything available, the smooth sand at the beach, the underside of bark of the native Georgia pine trees, even using charcoal leftover trom Girl Scout camp. As she matured, she earned a BFA as an honors graduate trom the University of Georgia. Her fame was first realized in the Southeast and it wasn't long before she opened her own art school in Atlanta, which today includes a number of accomplished artists trom her fold.
After a successful career in Atlanta, she was drawn to the light and the "wildness" of the Southwest and moved to Arizona in 1998. This move allows her to paint plein air as she enjoys hiking and painting in the desert settings. She is an active member of numerous artists groups sharing her vast knowledge with other artists. Her enthusiasm for the Southwest is evident in her exuberant paintings which can best be described as "happy." Claudia is a detailed colorist, studying carefully the complimentary colors and portraying them in both her interiors and landscapes.
It is obvious to any trained eye that Claudia was influenced by the Fauvists and Matisse. Her love of travel lead her to a five month journey to all comers of the U. S. in 2001 during which she sketched to provide ideas for her future paintings. She recently returned trom a trip to Paris, Provence, and Switzerland, and this trip will be the subject of many paintings soon to be coveted by the numerous collectors of her work.
I was born in California, but raised in Kentucky and Georgia. From the time I was old enough to hold something in my hand, I began to draw on anything available: the smooth sand at the beach; the underside of the bark of my native Georgia pine trees; or rocks, using the charcoal leftover from girl scout camp outs.
I have enjoyed a successful career far from the Southeast, earning a BFA degree as an honor graduate in 1967 from the University of Georgia. I became a well-known artist and art teacher in Atlanta. Drawn by the light and the "wildness" of the Southwest, I moved to Arizona a few years ago and now enjoy desert settings. My enthusiasm for my new home is very apparent in the exuberant paintings and can best be described as "happy". My paintings reflect my travels around the United States, Provence, Switzerland, Iceland, and Ireland.
